(09 September 2024, Jakarta) – The Philippines and Indonesia took another step towards deepening their bilateral ties through the successful convening of the Philippines-Indonesia Creative Economy Roundtable held in Manila on 28 August 2024. The roundtable is one of the key events organized by the Philippine Trade and Investment Center – Jakarta, Embassy of the Philippines Indonesia (represented by Mr. Jeremiah Reyes, Commercial Attaché) and the DTI’s Competitiveness and Innovation Group (DTI-CIG) to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Philippines-Indonesia diplomatic relations, underscoring their shared commitment to fostering economic and cultural collaboration.
Ambassador Gina Jamoralin, the Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia, emphasized the significance of creative economy in strengthening bilateral ties between the Philippines and Indonesia. “Creative economy is a vital area for expanding the partnership between the Philippines and Indonesia. Both countries are rich in cultural heritage, and by tapping into the creative industries, we can unlock new avenues for economic growth and innovation. This roundtable represents a valuable opportunity to further deepen our cooperation and build on the strong foundation of our 75 years of diplomatic relations.”
The Creative Economy Roundtable brought together key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors, including representatives from creative industries, government agencies, and academia. The discussions focused on exploring new opportunities for collaboration in areas such as design, film, music, digital media, and cultural exchange. The event also served as a platform for both nations to share best practices, insights, and strategies to further elevate their creative economies on the global stage.
The event builds on the Memorandum of Understanding on Creative Economy Cooperation signed in 2022 during the State Visit of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to Indonesia. Since then, the two nations have worked together to advance the creative economy agenda, both at the bilateral and multilateral levels. The roundtable also sets the stage for future collaborations in emerging sectors such as virtual reality, digital art, and AI-driven creative content.
At the sidelines, a display of products from Filipino exporters was also organized. The exhibit showcased a diverse range of export-ready sustainable and creative products, highlighting the Philippines' thriving industries in areas like fashion, handicrafts. This served as an opportunity to promote Philippine products to Indonesian partners and participants.
The Philippines and Indonesia, as key players in ASEAN, are poised to become leaders in the global creative economy. Through sustained cooperation, both countries aim to further boost innovation, cultural exchange, and economic resilience.
