(21 August 2024, Jakarta) – Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla participated in the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) 2nd Ministerial Meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia on 21 August 2024.
Secretary Lotilla was joined by the DOE delegation composed of Undersecretary Alessandro O. Sales, Assistant Secretary Ronald V. Conquilla, OIC Chief Science Research Specialist Francis Richard O. Rabulan, and Supervising Science Research Specialist Michael Floria. Philippine Ambassador Gina A. Jamoralin also joined the delegation, together with Third Secretary Glenn Joseph D. Teh.
The AZEC-MM was co-chaired by Indonesian Minister of Investment Rosan Roeslani and Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Ken Saito. It serves as a platform to share information, conduct studies on policies and projects, and help AZEC partners develop vision, roadmaps, or policies towards decarbonization and to promote energy transitions.
During the Ministerial Meeting, Secretary Lotilla affirmed the Philippines’ commitment towards decarbonization, and highlighted the Philippine Energy Plan 2050. Secretary Lotilla also impressed how transition finance would help the country succeed, enjoining for additional measures, initiatives, and incentives to be created by stakeholders.
On the sidelines of the AZEC meeting, DOE Undersecretary Sales attended a SOM level meeting with officials from the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) to discuss the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Energy Cooperation, which was signed during the Official Visit to the Philippines of Indonesian President Joko Widodo in January 2024.
