(21 October 2024, Jakarta) - In celebration of United Nations Day, the Philippine Embassy - Sentro Rizal Jakarta donated a collection of children’s books with English translation, and other cultural materials to Sampoerna Academy L’Avenue Campus in South Jakarta and Sekolah Pelita Bangsa in Cirebon, West Java.

During the donation ceremony held at the Sampoerna Academy on 21 October, Minister and Consul General Gonaranao B. Musor informed the students and faculty that the Philippines and Indonesia are celebrating this year the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. With this book donation, the Embassy hopes that the students of Sampoerna would be encouraged to read the stories from the Philippines and learn more about Indonesia’s next-door neighbor. The books also serve as the Embassy’s humble contribution to achieving the UN’s objective of fostering intercultural understanding through a love for reading.

The children’s books, which were written by Filipino authors, showcase Philippine culture and history, while imparting the proper values and lessons to young readers. This initiative of Sentro Rizal aims to provide not just resources but also create a bridge for cultural understanding and collaboration between nations. This also highlights the vital role of education in the achievement of sustainable development and global peace, thereby reaffirming the Philippines’ commitment to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4: Quality Education. Grade 3 students of Sampoerna Academy L’Avenue Campus showcase the Philippines during the school’s celebration of UN Day last 26 October. Jakarta PE provided the class with cultural materials to assist them in effectively representing the Philippines.
