(17 March 2023) – The Philippine Embassy in Jakarta, in collaboration with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Jakarta, conducted a hybrid seminar entitled “Sociopreneurship: Promoting Social Inclusivity through Purposeful Business Ventures” on 17 March 2023. This event was spearheaded by the Embassy’s Gender and Development (GAD) Unit in celebration of the National Women’s Month.

The Embassy invited Ms. Anna Melissa Nava, CEO and Co-Founder of 1Export, a tech-enabled exporting start-up that aims to innovate the exporting process from the Philippines to across the world. Established in 2016, 1Export works with distributors, retailers, and resellers through documentation, labeling and business matching.

Invited also as a Resource Speaker is Dr. Jinky Bornales of Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology and Project Leader of the WHWise: iBLEnDNICE 4WomEn. The Women Helping Women Innovating Social Enterprises (WHWise) is a DOST program dedicated to empowering women-led social enterprises through the iBLEnDNICE (innovation through Building and Leveraging Entrepreneurship Development, Networking and Inclusive Community Engagements) 4WomEn (Women Entrepreneurs) program.

The event highlighted how social entrepreneurship can become a tool to promote social inclusivity, its emerging trends, and the basic considerations and challenges in setting up a social enterprise.

Students from GS Fame Institute of Business in Jakarta attended the onsite seminar, while members of the Filipino communities and representatives from different Foreign Service Posts participated virtually.
