(18 November 2024, Jakarta) – The Commission on Higher Education (CHED, in cooperation with Universitas Bakrie, successfully conducted the first batch of the 10-day program ‘Halal Food Standard Compliance: From Concept to Implementation’, which was held in Jakarta on 10-19 November 2024.

The Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. of the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta, Mr. Gonaranao B. Musor, together with Third Secretary and Vice Consul Glenn Joseph D. Teh, attended the closing ceremony of the program on 18 November 2024.

The short course aims to familiarize its participants with the fundamental principles of halal food concept, requirements for halal animal processing methods, halal assurance system, halal logistics and supply chain, and tourism.

Participants to the course were faculty and staff from various colleges and universities in the Philippines - Cebu Technological University, Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology, Davao de Oro State College, Adamson University, Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, Bukidnon State University, Central Mindanao University, University of the Philippines – Los Baños, Mindanao State University, Benguet State University, and Iloilo Science and Technology University, among others.

The participants also have a teaching background in food technology, agriculture, hospitality, tourism, and hotel and restaurant management at both undergraduate and graduate levels. After the program, they are expected to apply their learnings in the curriculum development and institutional quality assurance in their respective colleges and universities.

CDA Musor expressed the hope that the short course will be institutionalized to further strengthen the academic component of Philippine initiatives to develop its halal ecosystem.

UB was represented by Rector Sofia W. Alisjahbana, together with Vice Rector Tri Pujadi Susilo and Vice Rector Tri Andika Kurniawan, at the program’s closing ceremony. END.
