(11 April 2025, Jakarta) – In his capacity as the Council President of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), Department of Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara visited Indonesia and met with representatives and officials of the seven (7) SEAMEO Centers hosted by Indonesia.
He highlighted the need to cultivate resilience, broaden learning exchanges, and strengthen collective action in developing basic education in Southeast Asia. After the 7 SEAMEO Centers hosted by Indonesia presented their respective key programmes and initiatives, Secretary Angara applauded them for their efforts to strengthen SEAMEO’s collaboration, shared purpose, and collective action in realizing the organization’s goals and the member states’ collective vision of improving the quality of education in the region.
Afterwards, Secretary Angara met with his counterpart, Indonesian Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti, where both sides reaffirmed their strong commitment to cooperation and collaboration, together with SEAMEO. The two ministers shared policies and exchanged best practices, touching on challenges and opportunities in educational development, especially in the areas of foundational learning, increasing literacy and numeracy skills, and focusing on the health and well-being of young learners with respect to technological advancements.
