10 October 2023, Denpasar. At the sidelines of the Archipelagic and Island States Forum (AIS Forum) in Bali, Denpasar, Ambassador Gina A. Jamoralin, as the head of Philippine delegation to the 5th AIS Ministerial Meeting and High-Level Meeting, met with Filipinos Ms. Ruby Gonzales and Ms. Raheemah Pangarungan who are representing the Philippines in the AIS Research Conference and AIS Youth Conference, respectively.
Ms. Ruby Gonzales, a scientist from the Mindanao State University, shared that she is currently working on exploring the field of genetics in using Mangrove trees in the Philippines, particularly in mapping of environmental DNA of mangrove species through water samples.
Ms. Raheemah Pangarungan, on the other hand, emphasized on promoting youth involvement in Blue Economy development in the Philippines. She shared how the development of start up companies involved in biomass and bioplastics conversion contributed to the development of the Blue Economy in Mindanao and Marawi.
The AIS Research Conference and the AIS Youth Conference are side events under this year’s Archipelagic and Islands States Forum. END.
