(11 October 2023, Jakarta) – Ambassador Gina A. Jamoralin delivered the Philippines’ Statement at the 1st High Level Meeting of the Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum hosted by Indonesia. The theme of the meeting was "Fostering Collaboration, Enabling Innovation for Our Ocean and Our Future."
Ambassador Jamoralin expressed the Philippines’ appreciation in AIS Forum’s achievements in advancing cooperation and shepherding the AIS Forum forward through the establishment of a roadmap to set up a charter-based organization to address shared global challenges and to collaborate on sustainable development.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo chaired the 1st High Level Meeting of the AIS which was attended by thirty-two (32) countries and four (4) international organizations of which the Philippines is a member. The AIS Forum was founded through the Manado Joint Declaration issued by the 1st AIS Ministerial Meeting held in Manado, Indonesia on 01 November 2018. The AIS Forum has four (4) areas of cooperation, namely Climate Change Mitigation, Blue Economy, Marine Ecosystem, and Good Ocean Governance.
The 1st AIS High Level Meeting was preceded by the 5th Ministerial Meeting held on 10 October 2023 chaired by Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.
