(03 June 2024, Jakarta) - H.E. Gina A. Jamoralin, Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia, received at the Chancery the new Charge’d’affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Aung Thu Soe.

Ambassador Jamoralin welcomed the newly arrived CDA in Indonesia and acknowledged the Philippines’ continued friendship with Myanmar through humanitarian assistance and cultural cooperation. Myanmar and the Philippines have experienced severe natural disasters in the past - Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda), Tropical Cyclone Mocha - and extended to each other humanitarian assistance.

In 2013, Myanmar gave financial aid for the victims of a deadly earthquake that struck the central Philippines in October that year and those devastated by Typhoon Haiyan, which hit the Philippines in November 2013.

In February 2024, the Philippines donated to the ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance Centre $100,000 to aid Myanmar's recovery process post-Tropical Cyclone Mocha.

At the end of the call, CDA Aung Thu Soe reaffirmed Myanmar's commitment to ASEAN.
