(24-25 July 2024, Palembang) - Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia Gina A. Jamoralin represented the Philippines in the event “Museum Meets: Tales of Darussalam City” held on 24 July 2024 at the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Museum, Palembang City, South Sumatra. Museum Meets is an initiative of Palembang City Government to strengthen the advancement of museums, and their role in preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Palembang as the oldest city in Indonesia.

Palembang showcased its rich heritage during the event through a welcome dance native to Sumatra sekapur sirih, a fashion show featuring the jumputan fabric, an orchestra in collaboration with the Palembang Department of Culture and Children’s Music Group (KMA), and capped with a Palembang wayang puppet show.

Following the event, Ambassador Jamoralin called on Palembang Acting Mayor Ucok Abdulrauf Damenta. During the call, they discussed potential cooperation in developing cultural programs that celebrate and promote the historical ties between Palembang and the Philippines. The Ambassador also proposed revitalizing the sister city agreement between Iloilo and Palembang, as well as pursuing a new one between Vigan and Palembang due to their cultural similarities.

To complete the visit, the Palembang City Government also provided a tour of the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Museum, and the Zainal Songket Museum that displayed the songket,  the traditional handwoven textile of Palembang, with the oldest fabric dating to 1718. END.
