(30 August 2024) - Mr. Jonathan Malaya Jimenez Damary, a recent magna cum laude BA Linguistics graduate of the University of the Philippines Diliman was the sole Filipino recipient of the Darmasiswa Scholarship of Indonesia for Academic Year 2024/2025.
Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia Gina A. Jamoralin and Minister and Consul General Gonaranao B. Musor were on hand to personally congratulate Mr. Damary during the opening ceremony of the Darmasiswa Scholarship hosted by the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology last 30 August at the Grand Mercure Harmoni Hotel in Jakarta. Secretary General Suharti of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology delivered the welcome remarks.
The Darmasiswa Scholarship is a one-year non-degree program offered to non-Indonesian citizens from countries with diplomatic relations with Indonesia. The program entitles scholars to study Indonesian language, arts, music, crafts, and other subjects related to Indonesia.
Around 238 awardees from 68 countries were chosen for this year, with Mr. Damary as the sole Filipino recipient of the scholarship. He will be further studying Bahasa Indonesia in Yogyakarta for one (1) year.
Asked what made him apply to this scholarship, Mr. Damary said that Bahasa Indonesia was his major field of study as a linguistics major in UP. He hopes to achieve further mastery of Bahasa Indonesia during his year-long stay in Indonesia. END
