(01 Sep 2023) – The Philippine Embassy in Jakarta in partnership with 1Export and Mama Sita’s Corporation, participated in the ASEAN Weekend Market organized by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (KADIN) and the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) which ran for three consecutive days at the Senayan Multi-function Hall in Jakarta.
The ASEAN Weekend Market is an activity aimed at showcasing and strengthening the role of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across ASEAN and is intended to serve as a platform to promote and exchange products and ideas, encourage creativity, and establish intercultural collaboration among others.
Philippine handicrafts and other local products were on display in the event along with signature Filipino food which included chicken adobo, bangus sisig, and beef kare-kare cooked especially by Jakarta-based culinary enthusiast Mr. Christopher Tagulao using Mama Sita’s mixes which were sampled by event visitors. The Philippine booth also featured a sisig cooking video to demonstrate how to prepare the flavorful dish.
In collaboration with the Department of Tourism, the Philippine Embassy was able to feature Philippine performing arts talent through a four-member contingent from the Sindaw Philippines Performing Arts Guild with their rendition of the song ‘Kalesa’ and their performance of the Philippine folk dance ‘Putritos’.
The ASEAN Weekend Market ran from 01-03 September 2023 as part of activities for Indonesia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN and saw 45 MSMEs from Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines showcase culinary products and cultural/traditional crafts unique to each ASEAN Member State.
