(16 March 2024, Batam, Riau Islands) – The Philippine Embassy conducted an Overseas Voting Field Registration and Consular Services Outreach for the Filipinos in Batam, Riau Islands on 16 March 2024.

The mission was led by Third Secretary and Vice Consul Glenn Joseph D. Teh, who likewise provided a briefing for the Filipino Community on the “Bagong Pilipinas” campaign of the Philippine Government. Representatives from the Migrant Workers Office, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, and Social Security System in Singapore joined the said mission in order to bring their services closer to the Filipinos in Batam, Riau Islands and nearby areas. A representative from Pag-IBIG Fund likewise provided an online briefing of its services for overseas Filipinos and their families.

Per latest official records, there are about 1,026 overseas Filipinos in Riau Islands, with 382 of them registered as gainfully employed. Majority of these overseas Filipinos are living in Batam, the largest city in the province of Riau Islands, and an industrial boomtown, an emerging transport hub, and part of a free trade zone in the Indonesia–Malaysia–Singapore Growth Triangle.
