MEDAN 1

(07 September 2024, Medan) – The Philippine Embassy in Jakarta successfully conducted a Consular Services Outreach and Overseas Voting Field Registration for the Filipinos in Medan, North Sumatra and nearby areas on 07 September 2024.

The mission was led by Third Secretary and Vice Consul Ihna Alyssa Marie O. Santos, who likewise provided a briefing for the Filipino Community on the “Bagong Pilipinas” campaign of the Philippine Government. Representatives from the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Singapore joined the said mission in order to bring their services closer to the Filipinos in Medan, North Sumatra and nearby areas.

Per latest official records, there are about 178 overseas Filipinos in North Sumatra, with 57 of them registered as gainfully employed. Majority of these overseas Filipinos are living in Medan, the largest city in the province of North Sumatra and the third largest city in Indonesia after Jakarta and Surabaya. END
